Found nowhere else in the world, this unique hourglass phantom combination of Selenite, iron oxide, sand and clay particles all combine to create a portal to the divine. Within the image of the hourglass lies the key to Ascension, and beyond.

Selenite is also referred to as Gypsum and Alabaster. It is a hydrous calcium sulphate CaSO42H2O. Selenite is usually transparent in appearance and occurs in the monoclinic crystal system. It is very soft being a 2 on the Moe’s scale of hardness. The refractive index is 1.52-1.53 and the specific gravity is 2.30.

The Oklahoma Great Salt Plains State Park is the only location in the world where “hourglass selenite” crystals, a rare form of selenite, are found. The crystals are in the park’s most fascinating area, a unique 11,000-acre geological phenomenon. Geologists theorize that the salt plains were formed by repeated flooding by sea water millions of years ago. Selenite is one of the minerals found in sedimentary environments.

Selenite’s crystals form from the precipitation out of highly saline waters. Since it forms easily from saline water, selenite can have many inclusions of other minerals and even trapped bubbles of air and water.

The Oklahoma Selenite crystals take on the characteristics of their environment – iron oxide in the soil gives the hourglass crystals their chocolate brown colour. On the salt plains, sand and clay particles often form an “hourglass” shape inside the crystal.
